It attracted 263 projects, with a combined value of £2bn. This is the highest foreign investment into the sector in four years, and more than any other country in Europe secured. The COVID-19 pandemic had an adverse effect on global investment. The pandemic saw the number of FDI projects in finance and insurance drop by 30% between 2019 and 2020 globally. While the UK was affected by the pandemic it saw a strong recovery in 2022. Financial and professional services investors into the UK engaged in bigger projects on average, creating more UK jobs and involving larger capital investment per project.
